Jun and Tim were really kind to experiment with our newly built quadrat, and here are the results:
As you can tell, the position of the GoPro might be a little too close to the square base. Unfortunately, we didn’t factor in the magnification of the water itself when we were building it! Ah well, back to the drawing board.
In any case, the vignetting of the photos that the GoPro produces also doesn’t lend itself well to doing a photo composite, so it might not be the best choice of camera for this application.
We’ve also done more water quality testing, and still no results on the nitrate and phosphate tests. We’re really starting to think that the test kits we have might not be sensitive enough, or we’re not using them right!
Along the way, we also managed to get more in-situ videos, at 63,30 and 95,30. For once, we managed to have enough energy left over, and thank god we did! Look at these squids we found on the night dive!
